What it suggests about public spaces:

Walking around in a gender inclusive washroom made me realize the high level of hygiene that schools are pushing forward. It made me realize the notions and valuable features that form the environment of an urban place. What truly remained a surprise for me was the amount of consecutive steps that the system provided for each person to be safe from harmful bacteria. A decade ago the steps would’ve been reduced to two simple movements involving soap and napkins. Furthermore, I now notice the additional options one gets as of how they’d which to obtain hygiene, they could use either napkins or dry their hands and therefore if you have a broken hand or holding something else in the other hand you’re still fit to remain clean. For females even tampons are provided in case of emergency, this option regarding the tampons goes to show how far away the educational system is moving from inequality. While men get all the tools they need when they reach the washroom, it’s now great  to notice that women can also safely access all the resources that they may require in a washroom without feeling like they’re asking too much of the institution.

Assignment reflection:

This assignment was helpful in the sense that it thought me to pay more attention to the details of our daily lives. Just by circulating in that public washroom I could tell the design of the space helped each and every person for their personal needs without raising conflict. It’s quite complex to satisfy everyone in a space that is supposed to be intimate however, that washroom did make everyone feel like they owned a part of it. The task of this assignment was to observe and  through my short research of that space I developed the skills pay attention and be more critical as an observer.
