Learning Portfolio Post #1

The first aphorism I chose from Christopher Breward’s aphorisms from his foreword to Fashion Studies is, ” Fashion is not necessarily spectacular.” I agree with this aphorism. Fashion is not always fantastic, means that not only fashion products: clothing, accessory, shoes on the stage of fashion show are fashion but also everything in daily are. In here, everything is meaning of what people wear in daily life. There are various types of styles in fashion: art style, simple style, luxury style. There are fashion which looks like s an art form so looks people can not wear in daily. And, there are simple style that looks what people wear in daily life, and luxury style such as Chanel dress that people wear in specific place or time. Art style and luxury style of fashion are spectacular, but simple style of fashion is not. Fashion is a way to show own identity, it is not a way to be shown amazing. What we wear or how we wear is fashion, fashion should not be spectacular.

The second aphorism I chose is “Fashion does not define. It is instead a term that demands definition.” I disagree with this aphorism. I already mentioned above that fashion is away to show who I am. How I wear is how I want to be shown. All of fashion products have all different character. Through matching and wearing fashion products, fashion does define identity of owner. And, also, people all have different opinion about fashion; they all have different meaning of fashion. It also means that fashion does not demand definition.
