Drawing/ Imaging: Text As Image

For this project, we were informed to choose our favorite quote from a book or magazine. I used a quote from a book “I Am For An Art” by Claes Oldenburg. I was inspired by Paula Scher’s artwork that our professor gave us as an example. The 3 dimensional artwork gave me a strong impression of “space”. Hence, I will be incorporating Paula Scher’s artwork as my inspiration for my final piece.

I wanted to use gray scale for my final piece in order to make the piece have a 3 dimensional room involving space. Hence, I decided limit my colors to black and white gradients. As father the text was, I used darker colors to indicate shadow and light. The text on the top, bottom, left, and right begins with the phrase “I Am For An Art”, which is located in the center to catch the audience’s attention. Additionally, the text is all capitalized to avoid the which letters are superior to the other letters. Hence, I used the same font (Helveltica) and capital letters to have equal spacing and less chaos in the artwork.

Second part of the project was to create a typography video with the final image on photoshop. I had first brainstormed my ideas on how the video can possibly turn out. I had familiarity with adobe after effects, which helped me understand the motion layout on photoshop faster. Hence, I used different effects/ filters (opacity, position, transform) to make the video interesting and added a classical music to show calmness and peace to the audience.
