With this color palette, I wanted to focus on religious imagery and the fashion industry’s interpretation of it. I chose to focus specifically on depictions of the Virgin Mary and explore the colors used in those paintings. The Virgin Mary is such an icon of Christianity and is recognized throughout the world. She represents motherhood, fertility, protection, and strength which I want to try and incorporate into my textile design and final sketches. I want to use this assignment to defer from my original, very abstract theme of social media and religion and focus on more concrete visuals and inspirations. I feel that the opulent and rich colors used in the paintings differ from my usual aesthetic but I feel that it could add a richness to my designs.
