Week 1 class activity reflection+Bridge one project processes

On the first studio class, we did a class activity in a group of three to discuss the idea of jewelry and adornment, then using paper to design and create a jewelry demo in 30 minutes. Javier, Angela, Rihanna and I decided to make a small accessory set that has a pair of earrings and a bracelet. The collection is mainly using the traditional Japanese Origami paper folding technique. Rihanna was taking charge of making the bracelet since she knows how to fold a heart shape out of a piece of paper and she twisted another piece of paper as the chains of the bracelet. On the other hand, the other three of us were making the asymmetric earrings. The inspiration of the earrings was the signature folding style fabric of the Japanese designer Issey Miyake. The asymmetric design was used to adjust the visual balance of two big pendants, and the chain on one side was made by paper circles that connected to each other. Overall, I’m happy with the outcome of this 30 minutes activity.

About jewelry:
To me jewelry some time can be the highlight or detail of a fashion look that somehow shows one’s characteristic.

About the Object of Adornment project:
With this making experience, I want to mainly use the leftover materials I saved from the last semester, such as the color rubber piece and felt. I also saved different kinds of plastic packages recently. I hope these materials can all be used in the final design of this project.
