Sustainable Systems: Natural Dyeing

What plant material did you choose and what color did you expect before you put the fibers into your natural dye liquid?

The plant material I used for my project was blueberries and I was expecting more of an indigo color rather than the more purple color that was produced.

How was the color impacted by changing the ph value of the dye bath to alkaline vs acid?

How was the color different between the cotton and the wool samples?

The main differences between the cotton and the wool samples from the natural dye process was that the cotton samples soaked up much more of the pigment.  The wool samples on the other hand were all mostly left as pastel colors once they were rinsed with water.

To do this small natural dye experiment you used water in different ways and disposed it in a sink. List all the things the water picked up during this process which will travel down the drain.

During the process the water that was used and was sent down the drain contained the soap from washing the wool, dry aluminum, mineral black (iron),  cream of tartar, soda ash, and soy sauce.  Additionally there may be small threads of wool or cotton that detached when soaking in the dye.
