Kombucha Leather Attempt

Please post a link here to documentation (images and text) of your experiment with either kombucha leather or natural dyeing.

How did it go?

I think my experiment on making kombucha leather was failed after I find out that what was growing was mold instead of the actual kombucha. I didn’t know what I did wrong after I read again the instruction, I find out that instead of using only 2 bags of tea, I used 4 which I believe it alters in some way the process of making leather. Then, I don’t know how it got contaminated because I was very careful when opening the box, I didn’t even breath so that it wont get any contamination and use alcohol every time I touch the box. Also, I use my heat

Are you pleased with your results?

I wished I could have got this right and have grown my kombucha leather which I was really interested about. However, I think that having this failed experiment makes me learn more about it and it will help me in the future to have this grown in the correct way.

What challenges did you face?

I faced the challenge of getting mold in my kombucha box. I wasn’t sure first when I saw the little white circles, but then I started researching images of how it looked the kombucha leather contamined so then I figure out that it was mold instead of the kombucha growing.

What would you do differently next time?

I will use 2 tea bags instead of 4 and I will definitely change the place that I choose to put my box that was the kitchen because it was the warmest spot in my apartment and the only place in which my cat never jump into. I think the kitchen by being surrounded of food, might have provoque the contimination of the kombucha leather. Next time, I will put it in another place that wont have food around and also safe from my cat.
