Week 13: “UN and Final Project works-in progress”

1) What did you think of your visit to the UN? Which speaker did you find the most inspiring and why? What did you learn? What did it feel like to be inside the UN to hear these conversations?

I think it was informative to know that Denmark and Faroe Islands have done and are doing to create a more relisient country and environmental society. Also, by learning more about their culture, it just made me think about what my country or the country in which I am studying are doing to be more relisient. I think in terms of recycling and using an alternative transportation in New York is somewhat getting more into the lifestyle of society. However, in Ecuador because of the level of unemployment and poverty, is really unsafe to transport using bicycle.

The speaker that inspired me the most was Mogen Jensen, because of the engagement he create while talking about the use of bicycles in Denmark. He made me feel the importance and the value of using such alternative transportation. It shocked me when he said that 9 out of 10 have a bycicle and 49% of children in Copenhagen go in bycicle to school. Also, instead of having only a bycicle lane, they even have highways because of the number of people that use that transportation.

Also, it was inspiring to learn how the Faroe Islands is managing and acting after the movement of fast fashion. The representative talked about the use of fish leather, considered the 80% of their export value, which is a resource they have in a good amount, so instead of leaving it as waste, they take and resource their resources in a wise way.

It made me realize and feel even more the importance that resiliency and sustainability has in this period of time. Also, as a design school it also made me realize the importance and essential value that designers have to change how things are know, implement new systems, change or modifies other in order to make the world more resilient.

2) Before class next week, please post 2-3 photos of your final project in-progress (material samples, constructions etc.) along with a draft of either your systems map or your resiliency/repair story (see Final Project brief for full description of eachPreview the documentView in a new window).
