A Contemporary Shell

A Contemporary Shell

The task set was to create a memorial to childhood homes. I started with the death of childhood and went on a journey to the final result of childhood homes. I went forward with textiles and explore all of my decisions in a pdf attached to this post; it is a twelve-page long research paper.

Childhood is defined as a state of being a child and for me, this means a state of consciousness where you are learning significant life lessons. The number of lessons learned decreases as we grow older, though still occurs, therefore I am of the opinion that you remain a child on the inside much longer than one might realise. The locations where you live during these lessons end up having a significant impact on who you are as an adult, which makes them a defining moment in your life. We all house an inner child whose memories define us and locations that have moulded us to become the current versions of ourselves; we should memorialize these locations, lest they be forgotten along with the lessons we have learned.
