Bill Wadman – Motion and the body

I noticed I was shaking my leg as I do a lot so I searched with key words like motion, movement, the body, and legs. I came across Bill Wadman’s series called “dancers in motions”

In his “Dancers in Motion” series, bill uses multiple beams of strobe lights to capture the movement of the dance. This series is successful because it is able to portray the kinetic motion of dance in a traditionally static art form. The viewer is able to see the emotion in the dance while viewing a photograph. He would not be able to do this without both amazing technical skills but also his creativity.

His artist statement:

“Bill Wadman is an American portrait photographer living in Brooklyn, New York. His images have been seen on the covers and pages of major publications throughout the world.

In 2007 Bill launched his career by completing 365portraits.com, a daily project which won him praise from USA Today, the Times of London, Playboy, and was chosen as Yahoo! Site of the Day (a big deal at the time).

Bill’s long-exposure ‘Motion’ project has been featured in Popular Photography, Eloquence, and PhotoYou magazines as well as on The Huffington Post. In January 2013 the Adobe Press book Adobe Master Class: Photoshop featured a chapter on Bill’s work including a walk-through of his compositing and post-production workflow. His conceptual portrait work has been shown in both solo and group exhibitions throughout the US and Canada.

After a degree from Berklee College of Music and a career as an art director in the wonderful world of NYC advertising, Bill rediscovered photography and figured out what he wanted to do with his life. Equally at home connecting with subjects behind the camera and perfecting their image in front of a computer – Bill’s technical skills are more than matched by his natural eye for what makes a great photograph. Notoriously obsessive and rarely satisfied; Bill is interested in just about every subject, prefers to paint his own backgrounds, build his own Macs, and perhaps most ironically, does not like getting his picture taken as a general rule of thumb.

Bill was the co-host of the popular photography podcast On Taking Pictures featured on the 5by5 Network from 2011-2018 as well as a member of the American Society of Media Photographers.”

In his self portrait series, he uses a similar technique but photographs himself despite his shyness of the camera.
