Bridge 3 Project Statement March 2019

My thesis states that the materials and fabrics used in fast fashion create distress to the earth that will be permenant soon. Most of my sources are from the databases, specifically data bases about science. My main primary source is a study that levis did, studying the effect of one pair of levis jeans from purchase to end of life. My other one is a primary source is about cotton. One of my main sources/jumping off point was from the film “The True Cost” .

I started my project with a buffalo exchange bag because although thrifting can help slow down the process of these materials ending up in landfills, it is not the solution because most synthetic materials emit runoff into the ocean when they are washed. I will use this in my rebuddle. Then I used swatches of materials to represent my other sources. One of them being cotton, which was the red farbic. Two swatches were from an acrylic shirt and a plastic bag, comparing them. My last swatch was from a levis flannel shirt. My source on consumerism is represented by the dollar bill and my last source which is fast fashion vs. slow fashion is shown through a 14$ price tag vs a $89 price tag.

All of the materials were recycled from something I personally owned. Nothing new was bought to make this material. With the scraps, I will be recycling them to a textile waste dropoff since they can no longer be donated.
