Time: Frame – Sound Artwork

This is my Sound Artwork project. For this project, I attempted to convey the sound of heartbreak as it feels to me, as I would experience it. I begin my piece with a sharp, panting breath, which stays throughout the duration of the piece, changing frequency and intensity as the subject experiences the heartbreak. Various sounds become more panicked, erratic, and frequent, much as if ones heart begins beating fast in one’s chest, or the moment they hear bad news. Contradictory to this, a heart rate monitor begins flatlining, and the intense ring of that fills the background noise, as if the subject suddenly cannot think straight.

I used the elements of simultaneity, duration, and pattern to overlap various sounds and create a dimensional and complex piece. Certain sounds overlap each other at different intervals, creating intensity or taking away from the intensity. This was my first time using Premiere for sound, which was actually surprisingly easy. I had a little bit of trouble on finding out how to use filters and effects on the sounds etc., so I would definitely improve my project by adding more effects and distorting various sounds more.
