Brainstorming
I used the brainstorm session as a way to map out keywords, and phrases that I felt that Cheryl Donegan referenced frequently throughout her pieces. Throughout the exhibit I took notes on the common systems and phrases that I felt she engaged with, in particular it seemed as if she was drawing on specific phrases, color, and styles from 90’s culture.
There were multiple pieces she used to bring attention to fashion, hip-hop, media, social media, and the ideas of “The American Dream”. I used these ideas to create a map of how I felt she engaged with each system.
Mapping
The map demonstrates the way that I linked the layout of the exhibit. I found that specific ideas and themes linked to each other, I used these as links to re-create the exhibit in a way that made the most sense to me of Cheryl’s themes and techniques.
