For my object exploration, I’ve decided to explore the design of a shoe. There are many different versions of a shoe. There are shoes for exercise, for leisure, for no explicit purpose except to look fashionable. Also, there is a clear dichotomy between shoes designed for men and for women. Shoes can be made out of many materials: leather, nylon, rubber, etc. Shoes can come in any color. Shoes are a weird design in the sense that many types strive for optimum comfort, but others are purely about design and comfort is an afterthought.
I want to learn about the origins of the shoe design. What were they first made from? When did people start wearing shoes? Why were they even created? When did their purpose change? What are the backstories of the many shoe designs? Additionally, I would like to learn more about how shoes are designed and created today. What software or sciences are used in creation?
