Layering (Environmental Portrait)

                          Head piece

My main idea was to construct a visual image of Lara, to represent this idea, I used the concept of “Layering”. As I believe that within a person, we each have different ‘coats’ or layers. I started with her physical identity and decided to paint (using black markers) a strong visual image of her thinking, working, but peacefully.

                           Final construction

I continued by constructing several layers I imagined she was somehow ‘composed’ off. From her outside, her appearance, t0 her environment (her studio, the street she lives in…) to her inspiration and her work. I also decided to complement the construction with three cactus, as I discovered she deeply loved them. They also act as a ‘cue’, showing how strongly she feels for her work, as If they were guarding her dearest treasures (works from her admired artists).

The construction was hanging from the air, portraying the idea of deepness, and seeing into someone’s soul.

As you can already guess, my name is Oihana. I will be sharing my work during my first year as an Art student at Parsons Paris. Hope you enjoy it!
