‘Human extensions’ Human attachment to objects

Through time we have developed sentimental connections with inanimate objects, those objects that remind us of our hometown and our deepest and dearest memories. In this memorial, we empathise the value we give to this objects, especially for those who now live far away and are forced to leave their home and objects behind.

We created a clip containing each member group showing a feeling of frustration and anxiety when separated from this objects. These loved objects are enclosed in a box, where they can be smelled and touched, but not seen. We tried to explain the complex relationship we have with these objects by signifying how we have a necessity to have them, a desire to touch them and smell them, a reminder of our home.

The ideal location for the project would be outside Universities, especially International schools and Universities, where individuals create stronger bonds with objects, where they signify a memory. Now that they don’t have this objects, is when they truly miss them and realise their value.
