CW – Disposable Clutch

Materials Project “Disposable clutch’

In an age of Fast Fashion and a rise in Consumerism, the fashion industry is putting aside quality for quantity. The media, magazines, social media… are pushing the desire to buy in mass quantities and a desire to possess over anything else. Buying three or more pieces of clothing each day or for specific occasions is now a given activity, How does the industry manage with such high demands from the consumers? By producing even more! Usually, creating pieces that lack quality and are easily breakable. This is why I created a recycled Clutch bag. With just old fashion magazines I weaved a bag that would easily break and that is highly disposable. With our desire to possess more and more, we are sacrificing the quality of products, and in the process creating even more trash and contamination (as production rises). The main factors influencing this is the media/social media (this is why I created the bag from magazines, those that influence this desire to have). I will also present a video showing the destruction process of this bag, noting how easy what we buy becomes trash and keeps on contaminating our environment.

As you can already guess, my name is Oihana. I will be sharing my work during my first year as an Art student at Parsons Paris. Hope you enjoy it!
