Project Deconstruction:
Philip Johnson Memorial
- Looked over for memorials in Connecticut but at first wanted to do something related to Don Buchla
- Wanted tot do something structural, possibly sculpture
- Came across Philip Johnson’s Glass house which is located in Connecticut
- Its purpose now that he is dead was to have art exhibitions and events almost remembering the spaces and buildings he produced
- Watched a documentary tour were Philip Johnson himself gave a tour of all 9 of his buildings.
- Gave me insight on why he chose certain materials to build, also the way he spaced these buildings out.
- Decided I would make models of buildings and drawing plans.
- Decided I would locate these buildings in the trailed woods a walk by my house.
- Looked on how people drew interiors of buildings, and birds eye view.
- Looked at common materials used to help build a model.
- Looked at artists and people Philip Johnson had relations and friendships with to help inspire meanings.
- Looked at more interviews with Philip Johnson talking about his childhood and early life as a politician and philosophy student
- Looked at Johnsons contemporary’s (mies van der rohe / frank lloyd wright)
- Looked at his inspirations, cathedrals and pavilions
- Found scrap materials to build models
- Did a plans book with building models and a place where the models could stay
