Styrofoam composting using mealworms

I personally do NOT like the worms or any insects because I can not seem to look at them or think about them because I tend to imagine things in my head when I see or hear things.

In solution to this problem, me and my partner decided to make a 3D prototype of container which can possibly avoid the user from seeing or touching the worm when they are doing this experiment.

Final Kombucha Leather

I was able to get 3 different layers of Kombucha Leather at the end of this project.

They are all different weight and thickness.

The smell was really bad but I am satisfied with the end results considering that I was having difficulties in the middle of growing with mold.

Kombucha Leather 3

March 31st / 2017

Last time I wasn’t sure about the white layer on the surface. After I talked to Oliver, we came to conclusion it could possibly be mold. He told me that I could either put more vinegar or just completely start a new. I decided to just leave it to see what happens for a week. I left it without doing anything else to the liquid except for keeping the heating mat under the container. It finally grew into a big piece and it has another layer underneath as well. I couldn’t find the baby Kombucha but I will try to look and grow again when I find the baby Kombucha after I take out both of the layers out to dry.

Kombucha Leather 2

This is a picture of the Kombucha after 2 weeks. I didn’t post anything because there was no progress after a week. I found this white layer covering the surface of the water. I have no idea what this means so I am going to ask Oliver this friday. I hope this doesn’t mean there is something wrong with my Kombucha.

Field Trip : Lower East Side Ecology Center Fire Boat House

It was snowing SO much and by the time I arrived at the Ecology Center, I looked like I took a shower with snow. It was so cold and I was a little lost so I arrived late.

We talked about how manhattan is basically man made. People build up on the sand-like land to basically expand the edge of the city. This was the most interesting parts of the day to me. We also tested how much oxygen in the water from the river. The picture above is some creatures extracted straight from the river outside of the Ecology Center.

Two pictures below are just a view outside of the center. I just took them because it looked so pretty with snow even though walking in the cold cold weather with snowing in your face wasn’t so pretty.
