Burkini: is a type of modest swimsuit for Muslim women. Originally designed in Australia by Aheda Zanetti, the suit covers the whole body except the face, the hands and the feet, while being light enough for swimming.

A Burkini is an example of how clothing is affected by societal norms as it was designed to fight those norms without hurting anyone’s feelings.

“Chloe” JENAHARA Scarf 2016

Label JENAHARA released a line called JENAHARA Scarf in 2016. For this line, the young designer collaborated with the talented illustrator Katherine Karnadi.

Inspired by women’s diverse characters, Jenahara and Katherine created scarves that represented three kinds of women characters. The three characters are Chloe (feminine), which connotes elegance and grace, Lennox (bold), which suggests independence and strength, and Kira (boy like), which represents a carefree attitude. These three different styles were combined with Jenahara’s unique, clean cut, and edgy design.

Jenahara realized that women today were feeling more comfortable and confident in their own style and this represented their way of thinking and behaving, especially with the increasing power of social media. This uniqueness is what Jenahara wants to showcase through her work.
