Curiosity Journal – Day 6

Darkest Glare

The darkness of the image, accentuation on the face, the glare, the look of a man who is simply sitting on a window sill casually glancing up, yet aware that a camera is in front of him. The look that shows that even though you are behind the camera, he is in control. All thanks to the darkness of the image. This particular image is not the typical dark, it is a clinical, bright dark, keeping the image realistic. There is a harshness, a scariness to the image, the lack of contrast between the shirt, pants, hair and black sky; a harshness that can somehow be interpreted as a flirty sexiness.

I remember reading about scientists that made the darkest material in the world, this image reminds me of this. At first glance, the black is uniform, all black except for the hands, face and surrounding white border and windows. But upon closer examination, there are flickers of white that ruin this idea.

Now, what if I told you that this image was taken in the middle of the day…
