Sense and Non- sense

Sense: Janet Malcolm, The Paris Review

I was interested in the way Roiphe chose to format the interview. Not only was the interview not in person, and over the internet. But, it was curious to read how she felt while she was waiting for the email to arrive. I also found it interesting and confusing how Roiphe would begin writing what happened during the interview and return back to the present. For example, in she would headline the start of the interview as, “INTERVIEWER”, and “JANET MALCOLM”. I wonder why she didn’t choose another format. I like how it is also easy to read, and you could tell Roiphe was not afraid to ask questions she wanted the answers to.

Non- Sense: Walid Ra’ad

I had a hard time taking all of the information as all one. I had to go back and read over the information which made it easier for me to understand over time. In addition, I found that the format was a lot different. From the  Janet Malcolm, The Paris Review article you could make the distinction between knowing that an interview was happening one on one. While, reading the Walid Ra’ad interview the format shows that he spoke in a back and forth conversation. Another example I noticed was Ra’ad interview had a more clear topic. They spoke on one topic consistently.
