Rhizome, Deleuze and Guattari

Sense:

We have been aided, inspired, multiplied.” After, reading this quote I took my highlighter and highlighted the text, underlined, and in the margin wrote, “Powerful”. Each line could stand alone but, I was motivated when I read, “Each will know his own.” My journey here at Parsons will evolve and be challenging. “We have been aided, inspired, ,multiplied.” My help, inspiration, and growth has come from the supportive people who encouraged me to pursue my career here at Parsons. Robert Creely would have said this peace in one short line, “When I speak I speaks it.” I agree, that is how we should see, I.

Nonsense:

“Unity always operates in an empty dimension supplementary to that o the system considered (overcoding). The point is that a rhizome or multiplicity never allows itself to be overcoded.”I don’t understand this quote because it seems like he is making a statement, “Unity always operates in an empty dimension.” But I reread the definition of a rhizome and I think of a community that continuously grows because it starts with people who were alone, and join a group of people to live as one. I would like to discuss this quote in class to understand the point Delueze and Guattari were making. I think I might have interpreted this quote with a different meaning. I thought a unity is viewed as one, and unity can not exist within a rhizome because a rhizome contains multiple roots?.

“The Conscience of Words”

Sense: “English has come to play, on a world scale and for vastly larger populations within the world’s countries, a role similar to that played in mediaeval Europe by Latin. But as we live in an increasingly global, transnational culture, we are also mired in increasingly fractionalized claims by real or newly self-constituted tribes.” This quote makes sense to me in a personal way because I can think of my mom and dad when they first came to America, and the challenges of learning the language. Both my parents are from Port- Au- Prince, Haiti my mom would tell me that she would watch PBS a lot in order for her to learn new words, and spelling. Now, the language has expanded into text and body language it is intriguing that we can view language as play. “English has come to play.” I think of a conversation between people who are arguing, and joking. Even a conversation that involves gossiping. Winnicott states, “Playing is doing” and that is exactly what you’re doing with the many languages, not just English.

Nonsense: “The writer’s first job is not to have opinions but to tell the truth.” I was interested with this quote because I tried to think of several artists who put this statement into action. I would love to get some response from this I kind of have an understanding, but I am still wondering if this could be true in the sense that some authors have shared their opinions with us.
