‘RELEASE’ Educational Toolkit Final Integrative Studio

Release, is an educational toolkit that will aide kids in afterschool programs and organizations such as the Boys and Girls Club. The toolkit will provide information and support for adolescents to set out goals,  to see the creative individuals that they are and can become, and to be knowledgeable on the current juvenile to prison system. This toolkit will provide kids who grew up or are currently living in an area that is associated with economic and social difficulty. I want this toolkit to be a form of discovery and encouragement to anyone who may encounter the toolkit for the first time. I will address how my toolkit will be beneficial to kids to learn about the school- to- prison system. In addition, my toolkit will act as a lesson plan to an after school leader to initiate conversation. The importance of Release is providing positive and creative engagement through starting discussion as well as a form of creativity through illustrating your ideas through literature and illustration.

In order to utilize the toolkit you first have to lift the cover and underneath the lid is where the instructions are going to be for step one. You have to complete each step of the box to be rewarded with completion of the toolkit. There is a lesson plan included for the moderator to know the learning objectives, resources and the duration of time for each activity and websites. The objects that will be included in every toolkit are a lesson plan, an infographic, a booklet, icebreaker, activity for the day dice, a journal (with writing instruments), and a reward.

The purpose for the lesson plan will detail the learning objective for the day and give a duration for each activity. Leaders will use this lesson plan as a guide to facilitate a group of 15 students in a classroom setting. An infographic will help give the leader background knowledge to give an introduction to the School- To- Prison Pipeline. I illustrated a infographic of the information onto a large poster that can also function as a brochure and be made as a print out for future reference. The leader will start by introducing the School- to- Prison Pipeline then opening up for questions from the audience. Questions that will also be a guide to help initiate conversation are, What are the negative impacts of this system? Why might schools find this strategy to be beneficial to discipline students? How can you as a student set an example for other students to follow? And  how might things be different if we didn’t have this system wouldn’t be in place?.
