The Keeper / The New Museum

The New Museum’s The Keeper, was on view so our Seminar class went for a field trip over to check out the exhibit. Upon arrival I was anticipating what kind of things we’d get to see. When we got there I went to the exhibit and didn’t expect to see what I had. There was a room with all white objects compacted into one cube-like structure that was just stacks of paper and objects worked into those stacks. I didn’t really understand the importance or the reason why the artist was fixated on doing an installation like that, but it did remind me of all the work I had to do, so to relieve some stress, I moved on. I saw a lot of unusual pieces of work but the project that stood out to me the most was the enormous amounts of tiny collections of trash that were melded into tiny sculptures. They were just small pieces of everyday items you’d find around your house and made into a work of art. Keep in mind, I wouldn’t buy one of these and stick them in my house, but they definitely reminded me of the collections I had as a kid of random items that seemed sentimental. I guess that was the artist in me coming out when I was 7 years old?

Here’s a cool selfie I took walking up the stairwell in the back, the reflections on my face made it a magical moment for me.
