Time: single Image

Here are some sketches I did of different shots I wanted to use for the final image.

Out of the assignments we have had so far, this has been one of my favorites. For my Time: Composition class I was tasked with taking a picture of a transitional space that encompasses the idea of movement from one point to another. I decided to use one of the many subway entrances located at union square as my transitional space. It’s place I am at almost everyday so I knew that it would fit perfectly for the project also considering its relatively short distance from the UC and other campus buildings. after taking multiple photos from different angles I found this one to be the most intriguing. before shooting I had wondered if a shot from below the stairs would prove interesting however I wasn’t satisfied with the look of the space. the interior of the subway has inadequate lighting and dingy tile. However after re shooting a couple times I was able to capture detail of the outside world through this shot of the staircase. upon shooting the first time I wasn’t able to get much detail due to the light. I played with aperture and shutter speed to fix this. . Relating this back to my first semester at Parsons, I remember coming up from the subway and seeing Union Square for the first time. looking at this picture I get taken back to the same feeling of curiosity as to what is at the top of the stairs.

Below is another shot that I considered using and also did a rough sketch of. I felt that it was a nice picture but didn’t capture the idea of transitional space.

Below is also another shot I had considered using. Although I decided against it because the picture from inside the subway felt more dramatic
