Visual Culture MoMa research proposal

The past hundred years of history has brought a plethora of new inventions and technology. Viewing the exhibits at the MoMa one of the exhibits included furniture, appliances and many other forms of art. I’d like to propose a research question based off of the many objects presented at the exhibit. What is it about these objects that gives people a sense of their origin in history? Many of the chairs and appliances looked very 60’s which made me interested in the idea of what makes these things look that way? Obviously it lies in the design but digging deep and analyzing the evolution of product design how can we break down the thought process behind the design. Some of the designs were more for functionality while others were purely aesthetic. For instance the design of many chairs and furniture in the exhibit seemed to be stylized to be very colorful and sleek in form.
