Seminar Evaluation

Becoming an artist is the main point of studying in this college. Finding the style that will suit us the most. Studio and Seminar classes are helping students find their style, they open up personalities and help people think in a broader more advanced way. They teach how to present your works and how to find the actual meaning in pieces of works made by other people. We were broadening our imaginations, learning how to think critically and how to accept critics from others. Think wisely and concentrate not only on personal works but more on communication and collaboration. We are living in the society where everyone is important, and it is important to listen to others without losing yourself in the process. These classes helped me to develop my communication skills and my personal interests and style.

Every bridge was a little challenge that we had to go through, and I enjoyed every step of the way. Every bridge taught us something new. The first bridge was very personal. Talking about special memories and trying to make people understand was very hard. I did not have any problems with opening up in my works. The problem was to see how people are not trying to understand, how people do not try to follow your thoughts in the beginning. Though the point is that I was not trying to follow anyone’s ideas either, so I really could not judge anyone at that time. Everything changed when we were presenting the works when people were explaining the actual meaning of the artworks. It made so much more sense when everything was explained properly. So first Bridge taught us to listen and to understand other people, and at the same time it taught us to open up to other people.

The second bridge caused the most troubles. Working with somebody is hard in general but trying to understand someone’s personality in a short period is almost impossible. The project had to be about the assigned partner. I have never talked to my partner before the assignment, and it was hard for me to make him fully understand what kind of person I am. It was not just about opening up it was more about showing your inner nature, and of course, most importantly the main challenge was in fully understanding the person who was assigned. For the profile book, I had to understand the love stories of my partner fully – I had to put myself in his place. For the profile essay, I had to get his main passion from the interview. This project taught me how to convey an interview and how to gain the needed information from there.

The third project in studio class was about teamwork, and in the seminar class, it was more about getting a full broad writing using words from other texts. It was tough for me to achieve. It was very time-consuming. The assignment created boundaries – we were restricted by the text that we wrote before, and the fact that I could not write and develop ideas was hard to accept. This project made me think more that any other projects. Especially when we had to explore a very broad theme such as dreams. I had so much to say, and I had to include all my thoughts in a given amount of word. Somehow I managed to do that, and I think it was very helpful as it was like a very complicated puzzle. It was very close to the studio class. I had to memorize all my old dreams, and think about them from a different perspective. These broaden my imagination and send me back in time.

The final project was one of the most interesting for me. I learned new a lot of new information about one of the most inspiring artists of last century. I was always thinking of researching in-depth about Antoni Gaudi. This project was strongly connected to the artist’s art pieces. His buildings are very inspiring – the way he combined organic shapes and architecture in his work makes people realize that everything is possible. I learned how to research and read critically in this project. I also learned how to evaluate the sources, and choose reliable ones. Th most trusted sources are books. For the first time in my life, I was searching information in books and it was so much more interesting that reading the internet articles.

Though seminar was very challenging, I learned a lot from it. Art is not only about producing the piece – it is also about explaining your ideas and conveying the feelings to the viewers. Seminar class helped me to develop my communication skills and broadened my skills as a narrator.
