-KFK2062yg-

<KFK2062yg> is a project that seeks to explore the future form of human body in the most basic manner. Weak but powerful, natural but synthetic, by paper-folding <KFK2062yg> is able to explore an imaginary outlook of mechanized human brain. The project name

<KFK2062yg> is a combination of the profile names of the 3 known time-travelers, who have declared themselves as civilized beings coming from the future.

Despite the authenticity of their speakings, <KFK2062yg> is a project that is willing to explore the mystery of the universe and be open-minded to all kinds of wild imagination and paradoxes.

Self-reflection/ Self-assessment

<KFK2062yg> is an exciting project that connects the dots between the complex imitation of futuristic fashion and one of the most natural and basic ways of making–paper folding. Origami’s enduring manner and handcrafted essence create an interesting chemistry with the topic that is being discussed here-a highly artificial intelligent human future. During the making process, I was constantly amazed by the endless possibility a piece of paper can bring. By turning back to such a hands-on experience, I naturally was more connected and emotionally attached to what I was making. It required much more patience and endurance, and there was no “Command Z” to hit. It was a chance for me to rethink the boundaries of designs and reconsider the power of traditional media. Folding, scoring, and cutting, these actions that don’t require the assistance of modern technology, intrigued me with its unlimited potential. By duplicating one small step, overlaying and intersecting one basic module, I dedicate much patience and much hand craftsmanship to witness the growth of my project, from something lifeless and silent to an art piece with attitude and volume. The final outcome went beyond my expectation, and I started to accept surprises and appreciate the coming-in of new ideas as I developed along the way. It’s even more fresh to foresee a capability of paper replacing the role of fabrics, especially on a one-time runway. Why not make the clothing one-time use and more biodegradable if the show is only happening at the moment?

Overall, I really appreciated this project for the inner calm and peacefulness it has brought me. By watching many origami tutorials online and following them, it taught me to adapt a much more complex and adventurous vision looking at an initial flat surface. As I was making and folding, it took me to a less anxious stage. I was able to sit down and question myself the significance of making and the purpose of creating. I was able to listen to my inner voice, and rethink what I can do for the world and what my work can change about our world. Many origami tutorials were long and time-consuming, but I was also surprised with the results appearing in my hands at the end. There were things I will definitely like to explore more further, for example, cutting. I experienced it a little bit during my testing stage, but dived out of it when I decided to make my final headpiece. I decided to majorly explore origami for this project, but I definitely see a potential of getting more involved with cutting techniques to make this project even more fascinating. I will definitely be open to that in the future and consider to adapt some of the elements of this project into my thesis collection.
