For Bridge 3, my group and I settled on improving the lobby space at 2 W 13th Street. We observed that a majority of the students chose to sit on the window ledges inside of the seating provided. Our original idea was to use vinyl stickers to create a pixelated visual barrier between the inside and outside. The statement originally stemmed from censorship and how we feel like we need to censor ourselves in the school environment. However, after conducting research and consulting with Maya, we decided to stray away from the censorship aspect and focus on the social-economical relationship between the institution and onlookers on the street.
During the critique, we were given the feedback we needed from Johannah. She was unconvinced about the shape of the pixelated person. We realize after the critique that we were pushing the message a little too far, and if we were to take this project even further, we could improve on getting our message across. When presenting the piece, we got the interaction we needed: a fellow student occupying our spot.
