My Thoughts on Grace Paley’s “Travelling”

Paley’s status as a stranger enables her to resist the injustices of segregation because, as a victim of antisemitic discrimination herself , she understood and empathized with the struggle of unjust treatment. It is due to this that she is more willing to use her elevated status in society to combat the cruel injustices of discrimination. She acknowledges she has a voice that some lack and has the intention of using it for the good of all. Paley is willing to overstep and challenge the boundaries set up by the society without the need to worry how people will judge her, this advantage derives from being a stranger to this culture of segregation.
