Aperture Foundation Gallery Visit

I chose the featured image to illustrate my visit because I really enjoy the visual qualities of the photo but the meaning is very interesting. The picture is so beautiful but it is really about how fishing has not gone back to normal and they have to check the radiation levels in the catch.

Observations:

  1. I was inspired by Guadalupe’s exhibit because she utilized old memories and photos to create a beautiful piece that not only has meaning to her but also tries to give voice to an underrepresented group.
  2. I Thought Janet Delaneys collection was really interesting and playful as some of the images such as The Unicorn With Gold Hooves are just so interesting that it seems staged. Even the more realistic photos such as the one with the bricks still had a polished and creative side to them that I personally found intriguing.
  3. I was drawn to Davey’s work partially for the aesthetic. I found the cool tones and strange imagery really pleasing to look at. The photos seemed to evoke a kind of sadness in them, but at the same time a sense of fun and youthfulness in the shots where the boys were swimming. I personally love pieces that document youth and friends and growing up so I enjoyed Davey’s installation.
