Reflection on Climate Change Part 2

While reading  Cities, disasters, and climate risk I learned a lot about the impending effects of climate change especially in cities. It talked about how climate change can effect cities in ways unrelated to stress caused by the climate change. Poor air quality, badly managed water and waste systems, poor and low-income populations loose access to services, and many more. Gradual and slow changes in climate can affect cities by increasing the intensity of extreme weather events and can damage building supplies and existing structures. As temperatures rise new diseases can come in to play as well.  The most vulnerable and at-risk people are the ones most affected by climate change. Climate is a very sensitive issue and seeing changes can take a long time which is why many people dont care because they think it wont affect them in their lifetime. The results of attempted changes to combat climate change are unpredictable and hard to grasp. Climate change is a terrible wicked problem that is very important to resolve but so large and has so many components that it is practically impossible to come up with a solution. As designers, it is our responsibility to be informed on issues like this so we can work to come up with solutions that will help the world in the long run.
