Climate Change Reading

This chapter of the reading is all about climate change, water, and wastewater in cities. I learned about the cycle of water in cities and how climate change seriously affects it.  learned that a higher temperature can lead to droughts and increased demand for irrigation. Changes in river flow can impact water supply and quality. Lower water because of changes can cause shallow groundwater wells to dry up and cause a water shortage in the area. Everything is loosely connected in the water system so one issue affects the whole system in many different ways. Even though the water system is gigantic one small defect will show up in so many different areas of the system. In this case, I thought it was interesting to learn about how it indirectly affects groundwater which is the source of our drinking water. Having easy access to drinking water is extremely important to daily life and not everyone has the luxury that I do. The water system is not consistent everywhere and different places have less access to water because of an inconsistent water transportation system. Also, climate change can affect their groundwater wells and cause shortages in supply. This is a serious problem and proper planning and design are necessary in order to fix this and make water just as easily accessible to everyone in the world. Water shortages in areas are serious and nobody should be without water so planning a way to fix this is important. Finding a way to improve the water supply system is something that needs to be thought about. I think that creating models or toolkits as a base step to combat any issues could be a good idea to think about. The system is so large that it is difficult to tackle everything at once but I’m sure with hard work and planning something can be done to improve these issues.
