Zero Waste Garment

For my project, I wanted to create a garment which is wearable on a bikini top or a bra. I took inspiration from my summer place, Çeşme. I designed my garment for both occasions, for wearing at happy hour beach parties, and also for wearing at night.

Materials board

I collected nine swatches and divided them within the similarity of the darkness of the colors. In the end, I chose to work with the darker colors because they reflect my style.

Mood board

My mood board is based on the fabric I chose. It contains lots of glitters and the beauty of the moonlight.

Process

As a start, I created my design with muslin.

After I finished my muslin model, I cut my fabric which was two yards, and pin it up before sewing.

After pinning, I started by interfacing the front and back decollete. Then, I sew my pleatings. After I was finished with my details, I put together my front and back pieces and created the armholes. Finally, I  clean stitched the lower part of the garment.

Adding the Waste

I wasn’t sure how should I add my waste. First, I thought I could sew it to the armholes, but I didn’t like the design. So, I added them on the front decollete, which made my design more powerful and daring.

Photo shoot

For my photo shoot, I used my friend as a model. I wanted her to wear a black bra because I think it combines well with my garment. I’m pleased with my final garment, and I can easily see the progress on my sewing skills.
