Essay Reflection

Looking at this reading from the point of view of a person of color I believe that Paley’s status as a stranger enables her to resist the injustices of segregation in that she is allowing herself to be subjected to scrutiny over what she is doing to challenge what the norm is in that area. I do believe that it is questionable that her motives are to try to give this woman of color and her baby a seat on the bus out of the goodness of her heart rather than to attempt to make it obvious that she wants to face racism first hand. Paley’s actions show that allies to people of color are important in helping bring to light issues that we have come to normalize.
