  • the design was called the “The veil and the vault”-two key programs(public exhibition asoace and storage supporting)
    – how it works

    • the storage isn’t made secondary, instead “the vault” shapes the experience of the museum, with a heavy opaque mass that is always in view it hovers midway in the building. The lobby and public circulations routes are shaped by its carved underside while its top surface acts as the third-floor galleries.
    • the veil is a porous honeycomb-like exterior that envelops that vault, this provides filtered natural daylight. the veil lifts ar corners as an entrance to the lobby and shop.
    • an escalator provides the public with access to the second and third floor, via its tunneling through the vault
    • galleries the visitors arrive on have 23-foot-high ceilings, with a  roof supported by 7-foot-deep steel girders. The galleries are column-free.
    • Visitors exit the third floor through the use of  winding central stair through the vault which gives glimpses into the storage space of the museum
  • LEED gold certified building due to electric car charging stations, bike parking spaces, etc.
  • the average age of visitors is 33
