Integrative Studio : Memory – Final

Integrative Studio Final Project

For my final project I decided to work on a 3D animation that heavily emphasizes on my past in a matter that would not entirely reveal the memories that helped shape my identity. The animation was to focus on how memories truly form identity, and how every specific memory we recall helps form our backgrounds in a matter that can be understood. In this project I wrote a story that focuses on a man that underwent excessive drinking due to an incident that happened to his mother which unfortunately lead to her passing. After a large amount of excessive drinking, the main character suffers from short term memory loss. His father helps him recall the memories which occurred long ago to help his son recall the memories. The son begins to feel scared, and anxious. His father helps him breathe and stay calm, then recall the memories a lot slower than usual.  By the end of the animation the son finally realizes the memories but soon after, he forgets them by only remembering that he woke up from the incident he suffered from. This indicates a repetition of recalling memories so he would be able to properly form his identity, which unfortunately does not work form him.

Process of Work

For the process, this animation was developed using Adobe CC’s Fuse application which offers game designers and animators the opportunity to develop human meshes (characters). This software automatically generates ready made meshes and melds them into one entire mesh that can be used for purposes that revolve around 3D software. This model was then imported into mixamo to generate a skeletal mesh that would then allow the character to be animated. The model was then imported into an Engine called Unreal Engine (specifically built for Game Development) and was coded to have specific commands that would allow the model to walk. The environment was later developed using Blender and 3DSmax, two software that would be utilized for developing 3D geometry and assets that would be used for levels and animations.
