Reflection: Through some personal research and also having taken sustainable systems, I have been hearing alot about how back pollution and littering is for the environment and wanted to do something that not only helped a bit in the park, but also got younger generations involved. I preformed my object in a play area in the park, where lots of children come to play with their parents. When I was looking around the park this area stood out, not only because of its fun nature, but also the fact that there was litter all over the place. So I wanted to do something that incorporated kid friendly fun and cleaning up the litter. My objected aimed to directly get the kids involved with picking up litter and making it fun, so I made a basketball hoot that worked as a trash receptacle. The piece was “activated” by me wearing it and walking around, it was then utilized by the kids who would through trash into the hoop. The objected changed the relationship between me and others by turning me into a sort of game, but a game with a positive impact on the environment. I have had negative experience with performance art so it was nice to have a positive one, and get outside and share it with people directly. And the people I interacted wiht were super kind and friendly. Its always fun watching kids have fun and be able to be silly with them, and an older woman came up after seeing what I was doing and gave some very sweet words of praise and encouragement.
