Photobook

I came to Parsons for photography and when I received a camera I realized I had stopped taking pictures in the past year. This body of work inspired me to pick up photography again and produce zines based of the category of what my eye catches. A phonebook came to mind when my dad showed me what he had found he said it was for me, my Abuela’s old 35mm from the 80’s. She passed away shortly before I began working on this project. She didn’t have much to leave for us since she was a Cuban Immigrant, but luckily my dad had found her camera. This inspired me to continue her story through my life. I believe a persons soul is reveal in their eyes and for my eyes to being looking through the same viewfinder as she did added to the concepts.  I left the date in the camera for when my Abuela last used it as a continuation of her life through mine. I focused on people and the spaces they travel to or inhabit and how that manifests within the individual being. My eye was also focused on capturing fashion and matching them with colors through Miami and New York. These concepts inspired me to continue photography once again, and the photos also gave me insight on what my eye catches to further identity as an artist across many mediums. At the end of the 50 pages of images I added collages of the female figures in my life I admire, using the external surroundings of a person to express the individual. Click the link below to view.
