Primer 2004, written, directed, and starring Shane Carruth, deals with the theme of time travel and the altering of universal timelines. The movie follows Aaron and Abe as they experiment with their newly built machine, originally meant for gravitational manipulation turned time traveling device. The premise of the machine is that it needs to be turned on X amount of hours before their travel, which means the ‘portal’ only stays open for that amount of time. The pair would have to lay low during the time their doubles were traveling in time, so, they would rent a hotel room where they would go technology free for the six hours the machine was turned on. This movie gave me a confusing sense of time due to the way they traveled. Say their start time was 12:00am, their end time would be 12:01am. The idea of multiple timelines had also confused me. If they knew that they have been traveling through time and knew where their doubles would be, why did they never look for them?
