Bridge Project 5

For this assignment, students were asked to create an art piece using skills they felt they had a strong grip and one they weren’t so proficient in. For me, I had chosen color theory (a strong suit) and filming/ film editing as my  weakness. With this, I created a short film with basis of saturation and control. The videos meaning is derived from Jean Paul Sartre’s theory of the stages of life, a theme commonly seen in American Beauty. The first stage, contacted with the white cake, is the aesthetic stage. This is the stage of teenagers, associated with sex, drugs, and money. The next stage, cake in the fridge, is the religious stage. This is most known as the “reason for being.” This stage is formulated around the American dream and the idea of settling down and having kids. Lastly, the final stage is the enlightened stage. This is most known as the time when one accepts themselves as who they are and does things they truly desire.

As the video progressed, the colors of the flowers, clothing, and setting had increased in saturation. Similarly, colored lights had been used in order to create a deeper sense of atmosphere.
