Final Reflection on the Project, collaboration and research

Research:

During the research process, we looked into different artists on how they exhibit faces, identities, and artists who are inspired by plants.

5 Inspired Artists:

Alexander Calder (outlines of human faces, shadow, and light)

Terri Chiao and Adam Frezza (Plantations and sculptures>> vivid colors and paper materials)

Rachel Ducker (silhouette, human faces)

Yayoi Kusama (inner minds, feelings, memories, and identity>> similar to what Skylah does with her artworks)

“All of about my love”

Alexa Meade (paint on humans>> paint on existing objects)

“Jon Goes”

These artists and their works are inspiring for us in some ways more or less. The way how lines can create faces and cast shadows, how paper can be manipulated, how identity, memories, and emotions can be expressed through colors and shapes, as well as how a shape of a human face can be pictured with the use of paints. All these are somewhat helpful to us in creating our own work.

Collaboration:

As mentioned in peer to peer evaluation, both I and my partner have been equally distributing our work and have been collaborating since the start. There were times when we didn’t communicate well enough, however, we tried to make everything work. If we have communicated more regularly, we could have made our work even nicer in terms of the technical aspects, as well as experimentations. We could have had more time to try different things. However, I believe both of us have been doing the equal amount of jobs, and we were working on a slow but steady pace. Overall, the process could be better, however, it was still successful.

Final Reflection:

Through this project, I and my partner have created a brand new person. It was very interesting to be able to let our imagination go wild, and just create a character out of thin air. The project was not easy, as it contains technical skills, a lot of effort and time, as well as good collaborative skills. I and my partner have met difficulties with coming up ideas of what we wanted to do, the best way to stick the paper on without making a huge mess, and also how to use colors and other materials to express the character’s identity. The final product could definitely be better and well made if we had more time. We could have worked more collaboratively and communicated more thoroughly for a better final product.
