Plaster

For the past couple of weeks we took our wet shop orientation and started to learn how to use alginate and plaster to cast body parts. In this project, we were to cast at least 2 body parts and put them together as an abstract sculpture.

The above is a brief illustration of what I want to do for this project. I did a front and side view for my design. The I casted my own chest with plaster strips, I also asked my boyfriend for help for the clasped hands with alginate.

After making the mold for my chest with plaster strips, I used more of the strips to create berries for pour plaster in latter. Then I applied Vaseline on all sides to avoid sticking. Then I poured the already mixed plaster into the mold.  Just as shown above.

Below is the finished product;

When I was connecting the two pieces together, I realized it was almost impossible,  due to the large amount of surface area beneath the hands as well as the weight, therefore I used wired and for covering up the connected part, I intentionally made it look messy.

The whole Idea of the project is that no matter what u look like, whether you have small breasts like I do, or large waist, be confident, because there is always going to be someone that loves you.
