“Our Daily Bread”

I found this scene from “Our Daily Bread” to be most intriguing.  Initially, it reminded me of this scene from the film “North By Northwest”:

The absence of dialog in this film allows the audience to look objectively at whats being shown on screen.  This absence makes it difficult to understand exactly whats going on in this image but given the context of the film, one can infer that the crops are being sprayed with some sort of pesticide, either preventing or helping them grow. But looking at the image itself within the context of the film, I think it showcases the underlying toxicity of crops we perceive as “organic” and its bizarre beauty.  I find the picture to be beautiful.  The composition is actually quite incredible, as its colors and symmetry are comparable to that of a painting or photograph.  The bright color of the sunflowers in contrast with the grayness of the sky, makes for an intriguing composition that evokes a bit of a “ying-yang” -esque visual.
