Bridge 3, Final Part

The rules for this assignment were simple: Make something wonderful via Appreciation. Make something terrible via appropriation.

1 must be a pattern (this beautiful wallpaper or curtains or print for a dress (maybe shirt?)

1 must be a tattoo

For Riot Grrrl — a culture that is founded on radical and cultural feminist beliefs — wonderful appropriations are easy to come by and terrible appropriations are not hard to conceive given the ever-present sexism in today’s society.

For my pattern, I collected every femme-presenting character from original Riot Grrrl zines and collaged them together into a pattern.

For the tattoo, I created a terrible design based on Meninist, an extremely sexist collective of bearded white men, composed of the male symbol with a picture of Kathleen Hannah (lead singer of Bikini Kill – known as one of the ‘mothers’ of the Riot Grrrl movement) crossed out.
