The process for mt bridge 2 project was considerably longer than that of my bridge 1 project. I started with some simple sketches I did whilst sitting in my chosen space, Tompkins Square Park. They were portraits of those I saw walking around.
I put these aside and took some pictures of Tompkins which ended up being the setting and pages to my book. I laid them all out in a way that made sense to me, putting my essay on the first page, acting almost as a preface to the rest of the content.
After that, I took my illustrations and put them into illustrator. Here I added color.
From here I did some archival research and found some images of the Tompkins Square Riot of ’88. I laid these out and then did three different printing jobs so I could layer my content in my book and make it interactive.
After printing the content I started to assemble my book. I chose to make an accordion book. I assembled the pages and then added my characters using construction paper and the printed images.
Afterward, I cut and pasted the riot images so they fit underneath my characters.
To finalize my book I added the covers and let it dry.
