Idea

The main idea is to use three primary colors to reflect the different characters in a school bulling event. The reason that it is called original sin is because the original sin is the tendency to be evil that is believed to be present in everyone from birth in religious concept. School bulling event usually happens among teenagers, who are supposed to be kind and more innocent. Their evilness when participating or ignorance to the bulling event is a reflection of their original sin. Also, the guy who was bullied in the video did nothing wrong. He was bullied just because he is short. At this time, original sin was a sarcastic to the reason of bulling.

Red color represents the violence as well as the person who is always bulling the others. Yellow represents the person who has seen all these happens but chose to ignore. Blue represents the person who is bullied but remains silence all the time. These three kind of people together lead to a bulling event. In our lives, there are still a lot of bulling happening, which is just like these three color continuing to duplicated.

A brief explanation of Pudovkin’s 5 Basic Edits and how you used them in the two videos

Contrast: Changing between two different scenarios so that the audience can see the contrast between them.

In the video, I changed between three characters with different color of background.

Parallelism: Connect two different scenarios by using a similar elements or shapes.

In the practice video, I using a green circle as a transition between the radio and the drawing

Symbolism: Move to another scene using a symbol.

In the video, I changed between red and yellow character using the same ellipse.

Simultaneity: Crosscutting two events and giving a sense of suspense.

In the practice video, I did the cross cutting between indoor scene and outdoor scene so that it can create a feeling of waiting something to happen.

In the video, I crosscut between red figure and yellow figure talking about the same event.

Leit motif: Give the audience a feeling of  shooting from another point of view.

In the practice video, I video the figure from the view of the radio.

In the video, I using the circle clip mask to create a feeling of watching them from a magnifying glass.

A brief reflection on the project (Consider the planning, filming, and editing. How did you think/ use linear or non- linear time in this project? How does this approach affect your thinking about time organization as an artist/ designer?)

I think using a linear time on this project is great. In the video I have three people reacting about one thing that happens during certain time frame. I think it’s important to see how can the same thing be presented in three different ways. When I’m using Premier, I found that it is interesting to see how time was divided into countless little frames. Meanwhile, changing the sequence of the video in order to make it seems to happen in the same time is also challenging.  I feel  The planning and filming part is not that easy. The equipment needs to be reserved since it’s final time and everyone is trying to get it. And it’s hard to find people who can be filmed. If I have a chance to do this again, I’ll definitely try to not film people since I feel bad when they gave their time to me and I didn’t finish it very well. In order to use the time more wisely, I think I should try to collect interesting video clips as possible even though it is not for courses. When I’m thinking about the idea of a project, the inspiration always comes from real life. If I’m able to film it right away, it saves me a lot of time digging it from memories.
