Interview Magazine 2029 — Milo

Idea

This time, interview magazine will focus on Milan Hasmonek, who is a successful film producer in 2029. Through this issue, we are able to see her true characteristic by questions related to her childhood, life choices and future imagination. Also, from her answers to some irrelevant questions in unlimited ways, some of her hidden identities is further revealed.

In Roman religion, Flora is the goddess of the flowering of plants while she is also the goddess of youth. Coming with the spring season, the element of flower will also be used as an important element. Meanwhile, Milan Hasmonek, as a young professional as well as a representative of her generation, conforms to the image of youth. She perfectly fits into the topic and the figure of flora.

The cover will be designed as a combination of photography and painting. Mixing the these two medias together is also related to Milan’s dual degrees. She is not only a screenwriter, but also an illustrator.

Finalize the Magazine

The magnolia and the pen is the two main element through out the whole design. Through the interview, I noticed that Milo always has her own plans and she has a lot of things to do. My first impression on her is clam and introvert. While we gradually know each other,  I realized that she is actually pretty positive and outgoing, which is just like magnolia. While it is just a bud, it seems so quiet. Then as long as it is blossom, it becomes so impressive.

By breaking the text with black background, the way of reading those questions can be controlled. Also, all geometric shapes imply milo’s very organized life.

Fabrication

For the final booklet, I used five-hole pamphlet stitch that I’ve learned in seminar to bind the book.

Reflection

The interview got me to know more about my peer. At the same time, the process from sketching layout to take photos to design the whole magazine makes me think more about the reason of a design. The elements need to have connections with the main figure and reflect the personalities and identities of this person. Since I’m a communication design major, making magazines is related to my study in next year and I’m really grateful for having a project like this.
