Dinner Date

meret oppenheim, a swiss-german surrealist, mainly work with sculpture and assemblages. One of her most famous work “furry cup”, by transforming the texture and outside of an mundane daily object, it triggers the viewers’ curiosity, sense of discomfort, and add new meaning and life to the object. This inspired me to create this piece, dinner date, a compact mirror that is cover by braided hair along with the hairy utensils. When I was little, my mom would braid my hair while I was having breakfast with my brother before school. Now when im in the city alone, there are more and more times when I need to have alone time and have meals by myself. Not only the mirror can be infer as a form of plate, but also the sense of uncomfortableness when looking at yourself while eating. I also make a short video of the modern take of the symbolism of objects. Alone time in the bathroom, scrolling through the toilet paper. For me, I feel like it will never end, just like the process of scrolling through social media.
